Concept art gallery

The main purpose of this gallery is to display great concept art for study and reference purposes, that is either hard to come by on the net or not available online at all.
Most of the pictures are of spacecrafts, because that's what I personally build, so you wont find much inspriation for stuff like mecha, architecture, vehicles etc. here.

Be sure to refer to the original creator if you use them as inspiration for anything.

Below you can find a list of specialized galleries (Homeworld, Grand Space Opera, Moebius, Starwars and Mixed concept art), a list of planned galleries that I'd like to include in the future, and finally a list of external links to cool concept art I've found around the net.

Specialized galleries

Homeworld:
Spaceship design from these semi-old space real time strategy computergames are some of the best around.

Since there's an excellent ship database on the game's official homepage, and many great concept art galleries around the net, so I've only included my absolute favorites from around the net here (I'm going to do some pruning soon).

Grand Space Opera:
Internet contest about making sci-fi artworks with either 2d painting programs or 3d rendering programs on CGNetworks in 2004. A couple of years back I sifted through the entire 3d section for good spaceship designs, and copied the pictures for myself.
However with many contestants, a huge number of large pictures, and a great variety of skill and focus, the page take forever to navigate, I've decided to share them here.

Be sure to have a look at the contest page itself, because some of the artworks are incredibly beautiful, and because I left at least as many examples of great space backgrounds, architecture and texture.

Moebius:
Moebius or Jean Giraud is one of the great Belgian cartoon artists. According to the wikipedia article, he already started working in the 60'ties and is primarily known for his Blueberry series and wierd sci-fi stuff.
Besides cartoons, he's been greatly involved in designing the architecture for "The 5th Element", is mentioned as a major source of inspiration for the original Starwars trillogy, and I furthermore suspect that the Homeworld universe and much of what we otherwise label "Japanese" spaceship design owes him a great deal.

Starwars:
The spaceships in the Starwars movies set new standards of quality and iconic value, that can be hard to match even today, so although some of them may seem slighlty old-fashioned, most spacers have a very soft spot for these.

This gallery is rather empty at the moment, but I plan to do something about it soon.

Mixed concept art:
Cool concept art from various universes and sources that wasn't numerous enough to merit separate sections.

(Planned galleries)

Yoko Tsuno/Roger Leloup:

Roger Leloup is another great Belgian cartoon artist, known mainly for his Yoko Tsuno series. Compared to Moebius, he's

Really nice architecture spaceship-designs and texture (Vinean and future human technology)

Linda & Valentin (Valerian) Pierre Christin & Jean-Claude Mézières

Rather old, main spaceship really cool, mainly interesting
